100 PCMA CONVENE OCTOBER 2017 PCMACONVENE.ORG
In 2019, San Juan will get a brand-new convention
district. The five-acre District Live! will open adjacent
to the Puerto Rico Convention Center with a 6,000-
seat concert and entertainment venue, a 170-room
luxury hotel, as well as a long list of attractions and
event locations. A 44,000-square-foot plaza will
feature the Caribbean’s largest LED screen and
outdoor stages for festivals and performances.
Don’t leave Puerto Rico without trying mofongo, a
Puerto Rican dish of fried green plantains often topped
with chicharrón (pork crackling). Mofongo can also be
filled with a shrimp or chicken fricassee, but any way you
try it, you’ll fall in love with this rich culinary tradition.
ToroVerde — About an hour’s drive from San Juan, this
new ecological adventure park has the longest zipline
in the world, plus hiking trails, suspension bridges, and
other adrenaline-pumping activities.
Casa Bacardí — Visitors can choose from three types of
tours — mixology, history, and tastings — at Puerto Rico’s
famous rum distillery.
Host at a hacienda — Many of Puerto Rico’s traditional
haciendas, or plantation homes, can host private group
functions. Plan a pig roast at Hacienda Don Carmelo,
where attendees will also have a chance to get up close
with the island’s famed Paso Fino horses.

What makes Puerto Rico a top choice for incentives? Here,
groups can bond on hikes and ziplines, explore idyllic beaches
and tropical rainforests, all while experiencing what makes this
island authentic. It’s also a study in contrasts — Puerto Rico has a
modern infrastructure, but its history is still present throughout,
like in the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan. And as just one of
a few islands in the Caribbean that can offer passport-free travel
and ease of access for U.S.-based groups, Puerto Rico wins the
superlative for near-perfect incentive destination that is anything
