For 60 years, the Miami Beach Convention
Center (MBCC) has been the go-to gathering
place for major events, from the Miami International Auto Show to Art Basel Miami Beach.
To meet the evolving needs of its customers,
the MBCC has embarked on a $615-million
renovation that will completely change the
way attendees meet in Miami Beach.
When it debuts in 2018, the new MBCC
will be a “center for creative collaboration,”
according to Miami Mayor Phillip Levine. For
meetings, the MBCC will o;er 81 breakout
rooms totaling 190,000 square feet; for trade
shows, four halls totaling 500,000 square of
renovated exhibit space; and for galas and
receptions, a 60,000-square-foot grand
ballroom and a 20,000-square-foot glass-
enclosed rooftop junior ballroom.
To increase walkability and connections to
neighboring hotels and attractions, the outdoor area surrounding the MBCC will feature
new event spaces and a more pedestrian-friendly design. In addition to new art installations, a 5.8-acre public park will include
open lawn spaces, shaded areas, a veterans’
memorial, and a pavilion.
