With 40 square miles of attractions, theme
parks, and resorts, Walt Disney World Resort
has an almost unlimited number of opportunities for meetings, conventions, and incentives.
Everything from entire lands to new venues
are opening during the next few years, giving
meeting planners a wide range of new experiences to draw inspiration from, whether
they’re looking for a unique off-site setting or
a customized team-building challenge.
The park has a number of entertainment
options geared toward large groups. From
March 4 through April 4, groups of up to 300
can catch an Atlanta Braves Spring Training
game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The 9,500-seat Champion Stadium, a
retro-styled Major League Baseball park, has
indoor and outdoor suites, customizable
menus, game-day entertainment, and fan
experiences for all kinds of group experiences.
What’s new for magical meetings that leave an impression
Walt Disney World Resort is busy transforming Downtown Disney into Disney
Springs, an entirely new destination with
more than 150 shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Many of the venues will
be group-friendly; for example, The BOATHOUSE and Morimoto Asia will have private
dining rooms for special events, conventions,
and presentations. Disney Springs will open
in phases through 2016.
The much talked about “Avatar”-inspired
land will open in 2017 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The Disney Imagineers
have collaborated with filmmaker James
Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment to
bring the world of Pandora to life with floating mountains and bioluminescent rainforests.
The experience will also include new evening
entertainment, from live performers on Discovery Island to nighttime Kilimanjaro Safaris.
“Rivers of Light,” another new evening-entertainment experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will soon open as part of the
park’s largest-ever expansion. The show’s
live music, floating lanterns, water screens,
and animal imagery all happen across a
natural stage on the Discovery River, located
between the Discovery Island and Expedition Everest attractions.
Even the park’s popular technology features have been upgraded. MyMagic+ can
now be accessed in two new ways — at
MyDisneyExperience.com and via a free
mobile app — and planners can also select
one MagicBand color for their entire group.
