PCMA.ORG MARCH 2015 PCMA CONVENE 85
Embarking on its biggest renovation yet
For more than 30 years, the 7-million-square-
foot Orange County Convention Center
(OCCC) has served as the crux of Orlando’s
meetings, conventions, and events industry.
The facility’s largest renovation project in its
history — the $187-million, five-year Capital
Improvement Plan (CIP) — is now in full swing.
Taking place primarily within the OCCC’s West
Building, the CIP will renovate large portions
of the facility that have not been touched in
30 years as well as add a number of brand-new spaces.
As of early 2015, a number of projects
have already wrapped up. A number of
improvements were completed within the
West Building, including upgrades to the
fire-alarm systems, roof replacements, and
renovations of the concourse restrooms.
A complete reworking of the Hall D and E
Building’s interior and exterior. The Gary Sain
Café has also reopened in the Central Lobby.
Looking ahead, a number of exciting
projects dot the renovation timeline. Due
for completion in August 2015, a renovation
of West Halls E and F will convert the space
into the 50,000-square-foot Tangerine Ballroom, which will feature a translucent, color-changing LED ceiling. W340 A and B meeting
rooms will also be transformed into the new
Sunburst Room, receiving new wood flooring, bamboo ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling
windows overlooking an outdoor deck.
Demonstrating the center’s commitment
to sustainability, the Westwood Lobby will
house the new Vision Gardens, featuring
herbs and vegetables grown inside glass-
enclosed PVC towers. The gardens will sup-
ply ingredients to Centerplate, the OCCC’s
in-house caterer. The Westwood Lobby will
also receive new concourse seating and tile
flooring. Also new to the center’s inventory,
four new boardrooms will provide 5,000
square feet of additional meeting space.
From the floors to the ceilings, the Hamlin
boardrooms’ cutting-edge features will be
hallmarks of these new breakout options.
